The annual Spring Bird Walk at Indian Boundary Park will step off Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. Judging from the new bird sounds heard in the park this spring, birders can expect to see new species making their debut.

Dave Willard of the Chicago Audubon Society will be leading the birders as usual, and welcoming back several species that until last fall were seldom seen at the park: American Kestrel, Barn swallow, Herring Gull and Solitary Sandpiper.

Starting at the Indian Boundary Park Cultural Center at 2500 W. Lunt, bird watchers will be guided in an hour-long, half-mile walk.

Leta Dally, president of the Indian Boundary Park Advisory Council, which sponsors the twice-yearly bird walks, said, “I am confident that winter finally will have departed, and Indian Boundary Park will be well into spring blossoming. And don’t forget to bring binoculars and a camera.”

After the walk, birders and Dave will enjoy fresh-baked and store-bought goodies and warm drinks in the Cultural Center, where the discussion will be continued.

The Spring Bird Walk is free of charge, but participants will be asked to make a tax-deductible donation to the advisory council, a charitable organization affiliated with Friends of the Park.
