Impressive Turnout for Fall Bird Walk
For the second time this year, the Indian Boundary Park Advisory Council hosted a bird walk. A group of thirty participants assembled behind the fieldhouse on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 8:00 a.m. This time, birders hoped to enjoy the birds of the early fall migration.
It was an excellent morning for birding. The weather was just perfect. The sun shining, the moon high above the horizon, light wind and the temperature was 42 °F under partly cloudy skies.
David Willard, of the Chicago Audubon Society, led the walk. Birders of all levels saw a wide assortment of the fall's migratory birds as they progressed around the park.
Robins were seen feeding on various fruits provided by the parks trees. According to Willard, this is an important time for those who may join the migration. This time spent eating will give them the good nutrition and food energy for the migration south.
